Fairgrove Progressive Discipline Contract Policy
Successful students require a consistent respect discipline policy and procedures for students, parents, and staff. If a student breaks the Fairgrove Respect Policy and Contract the following will happen (please be aware if a student causes a serious behavior infraction listed below, the referral process will not apply):
1st Referral:
Conference with parent and teacher. RTI interventions recommended.
2nd Referral:
Conference with student, parent, teacher, and administrator. Behavior contract will be completed and signed.
3rd Referral:
Administrative conference and other consequences may apply such as detentions, Saturday School and/or suspension.
Some consequences for referrals or unsatisfactory student behavior may include removal from class or school, campus beautification or work during the school day or after school, detention at recess or after school, withholding of privileges, confiscation of materials which will be returned only to the parents, Saturday School or detention. Saturday School will require an adult to attend with their child. Minor classroom behavior will be handled by each individual teacher with parent contact.
Cell Phone Policy
(AR 5131- School Board Policy)
Permitted devices shall:
1. Be placed out of sight and turned off during school hours
2. If a cell phone disrupts the educational program or school activity, the school employee may direct the student to turn off the phone and/or may confiscate it.
3. If it becomes necessary to confiscate a phone, a school employee may either return it at the end of the class period or school day, or keep it until the principal or designee has met with or consulted with the student’s parent/guardian.
4. Repeated violations of this regulation may result in the student’s personal electronic signaling device being confiscated and held until the end of the semester.
5. Students who possess a cell phone at school must be responsible for it. The district will not be responsible for lost or stolen phones.
Suspensions/Expulsions
INCIDENTS THAT MAY LEAD TO SUSPENSION/EXPULSION (Ed. Code 48900)
The following state and district guidelines will be followed for serious behavior infractions. The following will be reasons for suspension or expulsion from the school and/or district:
a. Caused, attempted to cause, or threatened physical injury.
b. Possessed, sold, or furnished dangerous object; including electric shocking toys and laser pointers.
c. Possessed, used, sold, furnished, or under the influence of controlled substance, alcoholic beverage, or intoxicant.
d. Offered, arranged, or negotiated to sell any controlled substance, alcoholic beverage, or intoxicant and then furnished an imitation.
e. Committed robbery or extortion.
f. Caused or attempted to cause damage to school or private property; including tagging or graffiti on school property.
g. Stolen or attempted to steal school or private property, including backpacks.
h. Possessed or used tobacco.
i. Committed an obscene act or engaged in habitual profanity or vulgarity.
j. Possessed, offered, arranged, or negotiated to sell drug paraphernalia.
k. Disrupted school activities or defied authority of teachers, administrators, or other school personnel.
l. Knowingly received stolen school property or private property.
m. Possessed an imitation firearm.
n. Committed or attempted to commit a sexual assault or committed a sexual battery.
o. Harassed, threatened, or intimidated a pupil who is a complaining witness or witness in a school disciplinary proceeding for the purpose of either preventing that pupil from being a witness or retaliating against that pupil for being a witness, or both.
p. Committed unwelcome sexual advances, request for sexual favors and/or other verbal or physical conduct constituting sexual harassment as prohibited by law (48900.2).
q. Caused, attempted to cause, threatened to cause, or participated in an act of hate violence (48900.3).
r. Engaged in harassment, threats or intimidation against a pupil or group of pupils creating a hostile and unsafe educational environment (48900.4); this includes bullying.
Cheating, Forgery, or Plagiarism
Students are not permitted to copy another person’s assignment or turn in someone else’s assignment with their own name on the paper. In addition, students will not forge another person’s name on any assignment, note or school document.
Consequences:
Counseling, “F” or zero on assignment or test for all parties involved, parent notification, referral, and/or suspension.
Computer Access
It is the expectation of all Fairgrove students to use computers appropriately. Students who access what the school
deems as inappropriate will be given consequences.
